Officials have issued a rabies alert for Harford County residents and pet owners near Darlington.
Harford County health officials say a raccoon found near Arena Road tested positive for rabies, and they are now warning the public.
Raccoons account for most county cases of rabies, including recent positives in Havre de Grace and Aberdeen; other cases have involved foxes, groundhogs and a bat found inside St. Margaret’s Elementary in Bel Air.
For possible contact with the Darlington raccoon, residents are urged to call the Harford County Health Department.
