Harford County Public School’s Driver Fired: Cynthia Morgan Removed After Letting Student Rescue Injured Kitten, Sparking Parent Outcry

A veteran school bus driver in Maryland has been permanently removed from her daily route after pausing her vehicle to allow a student to rescue an injured kitten from the side of a rural road. Cynthia Morgan, who had driven students for Harford County Public Schools for eleven years, was recently decertified by district officials following the unexpected animal rescue in Pylesville.

The dismissal has sparked significant backlash from local parents and community members, who argue that the severe disciplinary action constitutes an overreaction to an isolated act of kindness.

The incident unfolded on Heaps School Road, a low-traffic rural stretch where Morgan stopped her bus to let a student retrieve a stray kitten. While the driver defended her actions during a subsequent meeting with district officials, maintaining that she did not place the student in any immediate physical danger, the school system concluded that the decision violated strict operational protocols.
